Gone are the days when cosmetic surgery was only for the rich and famous. As more and more advances in technology are being done, ways are developed to make things affordable and available even to those in the lower class groups. Cosmetic surgery is not an exception to this. Whereas before, it seemed as if only the wealthy can pay for a better appearance, the "ordinary" members of the population opt for cosmetic surgery as well today. Furthermore, unlike the former negative on cosmetic surgery, it seems as though people are even proud to share about the body improvements they have paid for through surgical procedures.
In contrast to the common impression, cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery are two different things. Well, cosmetic surgery is actually a type of plastic surgery. The other type is reconstructive surgery. Cosmetic surgery deals with improvement of physical appearance in response to the aesthetic concerns of the individual. Reconstructive surgery also deals with the improvement of appearance but the reasons for an individual to undergo reconstructive surgery are rather obligatory. Examples include surgeries for serious deformities or severely damaged body features. Cosmetic surgery, unlike reconstructive surgery, is optional. Regardless of this, it is still a sure way of improving the way one looks at himself.
Majority of the individuals who seek cosmetic surgery are those who had experienced significant mockery about their facial appearance or body figure all the way through adulthood, or have failed many times to do something about the aspect of their appearance which they find unappealing. Because of this, cosmetic surgery has somewhat a psychological effect on the patients. Almost everyone who had undergone cosmetic surgery became more confident about themselves.
In general, cosmetic surgery is about enhancing the appearance of the face and of the upper part of the body. The examples of the surgical procedures involving the face include eye lifts, brow lifts, face lifts and nose jobs. The medical term for a nose job is rhinoplasty. Nose jobs include full or partial straightening, shortening, or re-structuring. A hump removal is also a form of a nose job.
Among the most common cosmetic procedures for the body include those involving the breasts. Examples are breast lifts, breast reduction, and breast augmentation. Breast lifts are usually done for older women since they are normally the ones with breasts that are starting to sag. Breast reduction is for women gifted with breasts that are too big while breast augmentation is for women who are not so lucky. Breast augmentation is very common among celebrities.
The other procedures involving the body center on removal of fatty deposits. These include liposuction and the tummy tuck. Liposuction is the removal of fat from practically any part of the body while the tummy tuck is the tightening of the unwanted fat and skin in the abdominal area, resulting in a flat belly.
It is true that cosmetic surgery can do a lot for a better appearance and an enhanced self-esteem but it does not mean that it is 100% safe. There may be unwanted side effects associated with cosmetic surgical procedures and there have been cases wherein the patient actually died from the operation. Thus, think twice before you make a decision to undergo cosmetic surgery. Find the time to locate the best surgeons and study about the possible complications. Make sure that you are prepared to accept any side effect that may take place.
